Prof Raymond Nkado

PROFILE OF PROF RAYMOND NKADO

Professor Raymond Nkado graduated BScHons (Quantity Surveying) First Class in 1985 at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria; MSc (construction management) in 1988 at ABU and PhD (construction management) in 1991 at the University of Reading, UK, specialising in modelling construction time for fast-track commercial building projects. In June 2000, Raymond graduated MBA cum laude at the Wits Business School.

Raymond’s academic achievements include: best all-round graduate in the Faculty of Engineering, ABU, in 1985; recipient of the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship for PhD study (1988-91); and Old Mutual Gold Medal for the best graduating MBA (part-time) student in 2000.

Raymond has provided quantity surveying and construction management services on construction projects in Nigeria (1986-1988), UK (1989) and projects in South Africa from 1996, including the Orlando Stadium, FNB Stadium (Soccer City) and Nedbank Sandton head office. Raymond led an investigation on behalf of the Department of Public Enterprises into the cost and programme performance of the R23-billion New Multi-Product Pipeline.

Raymond was appointed professor of quantity surveying and head of department, University of Port Elizabeth 1999-2001 and executive dean, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, Wits University 2001-2006.

Raymond served as chairman of the Construction Industry Development Board (2008 – 2010); President of the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (2005 – 2009); and is currently President of the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (2009 - 2013). Raymond is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, UK and the Chartered Institute of Building, UK.
